A lawmaker says a jailed Iranian dissident has ended a hunger strike to protest prison conditions and a ban on visits by her family. Lawmaker Mohammad Reza Tabesh was quoted by the semiofficial ISNA news agency Wednesday as saying that Nasrin Sotoudeh, a lawyer and human rights activist, ended her hunger strike after intervention from top government officials and Sotoudeh's husband. Sotoudeh was sentenced to six years in prison on security charges after representing imprisoned Iranian opposition activists in court. U.N. High Commissioner for Human Rights Navi Pillay urged Iran on Tuesday to improve conditions for Sotoudeh. She reportedly began her hunger strike in mid-October. The European Parliament awarded the 2012 Sakharov Prize for Freedom of Thought to Sotoudeh and dissident Iranian filmmaker Jafar Panahi.
