Troubled IndyCar gets much-needed buzz as series prepares to toast champ Ryan Hunter-Reay

Nearly 12 weeks after winning his first IndyCar championship, Ryan Hunter-Reay will finally get to accept his trophy in an event at Indianapolis Motor Speedway. A minimum of for one night, the attention will be on Hunter-Reay and everything that went right last season in IndyCar. The celebration on Thursday night will be a welcome respite from the debate that's engulfed the series because the season ended in September. IndyCar's management has been absolutely nothing but a catastrophe because the season ended with the Hulman & Co. board of directors stumbling along until CEO Randy Bernard was let go. The board let Bernard twist for months and then tried to paint his rushed Oct. 28 termination as a "mutual separation" that exasperated followers.
